Life is a Highway - it’s the journey, not the destination

catch up

before I go and have a nap. I am so exhausted. Have been going to bed really late the last 3 nights and it’s caught up with me, neeeed sleeeeep!!

Katy came over yesterday and as soon as she arrived I shoved her back into a car and took her off to see Kris to pick up some guinea pigs. Spent a lovely afternoon there chatting, giggling and ignoring the kids. Perfect!!

Home for tea, ok well sandwiches, and we spent a while chatting about studying with the OU and ignoring the kids again. Dunno how they did it, but they eventually all went to sleep. And me and Katy stayed up till 1.30am chattign - oops.

This morning we left our mark on them by submitting them to our Saturday morning telly routine - Dick and Dom. Really sorry if Becca starts shouting “bogeys” in the car, or starts wearing her pants on her head. Unfortunately all too normal behaviour in our household ;o)

After they shot off we’ve done *nothing*. We are supposed to be going to a firework show tonight in Matlock, but since I’m not driving I’ll let James sort it out and I’ll just enjoy when I get there!!

Ok, off for a nap as promised. Might blog later…

life

A reminder of how precious it is came this morning. James came home from work early as he was upset because a friend of his had died in a car accident. He was 32. :( Just doesn’t bear thinking about.

*rolls eyes*

I’ve had a good day today :) Slept in due to a late night, just couldn’t get to sleep. Got up to fed kids and a clean kitchen. Love it when James is off!! Needed to get lots of stuff done and tidied today so James decided to take the kids out after lunch leaving me in the house. *bliss* Did the yucky stuff first (spare room and kids room) and then settled down to fold laundry in front of an episode of Sharpe. Made my day that did!! I know, I don’t get out much…

Rolled my eyes when James told me about his friends mum, who they’d gone to visit, as she always has a go at him about home ed. Anyway today was no different, she’d asked him about hw they were doing with our “school work” and so James told her about how he had done some experiments with them the other day. She went mental at him!! Saying that they shouldn’t be doing things like that when they should be concentrating on their abc’s! *sigh* you just can’t win can ya? I’m not even gonna go there. Not sure if she’ll be there on Sat evening when we go to a fireworks night, but if she is I bet she doesn’t say anything to me. They never do.

Kids watching simpsons now which is doing a bit about Homer’s Iliad. See? Education! Er…..

Aww

My little girl is 4!! Where has the time gone eh? Day went fine really, inlaws turned up at 5.30pm so just in time for the cake. Feel like we always waste birthdays waiting for people to come and see us. They should fit round us not the other way round!

Remind me of that next July anyway ;) (and no I do NOT want to think of how old Marcus will be then!!!!)

Bloody hell, I’m feeling old too now!!

slight grrr

It’s Alex’s birthday today and PIL have said they’ll come up on their way to Newcastle. They said they’d be up in the afternoon and now it’s 5pm and we’re still waiting. If it were the first time I could understand but they do this all the bloody time. We could have gone and done something today but no, we’ve been stuck in the house waiting for people who refuse to give an estimated time of arrival and don’t phone either. Grrr.

See this is why I’m so anal about timekeeping :(

jabs

If I said the highlight of the day was going out to get Marcus and Alex’s jabs done, would it give an indication of how crap the day has been?? lol!!

Actually, not that bad, but I’ve struggled to get going so not much to report. Glad I got the bloody jabs done, ummed and ahhed for ages and then when I did decide to get them done it took me months to get to the bloody doctors!! All up to date now :) And cos we went in the holidays no nasty questions about school which I have to say was worrying me slightly with the lea situation here. Phew.

That’s all there is to report!!

Saturday Science

but first a quick catch up.

Wednesday we went into Doncaster for the farmers market, decided to wait for James as he was going to make it home earlier than normal and it meant he could drive ;) Market was really dissapointing tbh, only about 5 stalls in total. We did come away with some yummy sausages though and some fruit from the regular markets.

Thursday was the day of the London trip. We were up at 5am and the kids were in a good mood. Trip down was fine, but took ages due to traffic. Also didn’t help that lots of people were sleeping and we had 2 bouncy kids!!

Arrived just before lunch and took the tube to the Natural History museum. Kids thuoght it was all fantastic. Teh dinosaurs were the biggest hit especially the robotic T-Rex. I especially enjoyed looking at all the mammals as I actually recognised them and could be all knowledgable about them !!! We were knackered after going round though and didn’t get to see everything. journey back was fine too. Wouldn’t do it again in a hurry mind you ;) but it was an experience!!

Friday I was so tired. We didn’t do much at all I don’t think.

Today was a tidying day (*sigh* aren’t they all??) and we all did well in the areas we decided to do. We now have a dining table thanks to me ;) This was so James could do science experiments with the kids using the Sonlight science stuff I got. So after lunch he set to work with them doing the ping pong ball experiment (because someone stuck a dent in the ball!) and a balloon rocket thing. I dunno, I was out!!

Made pizza for tea. how come when I’m in a hurry it takes me ages to roll out pizza and stick toppings on it? But today when I’m organised I can do it much easier so tea is actually early!! Felt really proud of myself for doing homemade chicken nuggets yesterday too. Pity about the rest of the crap my kids eat!! (actually they’re not that bad, but not fab either!)

Tonight I’ve just finished my assignement for my OU course so I’m feeling chuffed with myself about that. James is watching Black Hawk Down which is such a depressing film so I’m trying not to watch :(

so very tired

so I’m off to bed soon. Day in London yesterday was really good fun, I’ll update properly soon. I’m so tired though, it was just too long!! Hasn’t helped by me needing to do some studying so I’m still awake now.

Joyce - yup still plannign to go to Scotland. Will contact you about it soon.

Sarah - argh! forgot about that (duh - where is my brain??), plan B it will have to be!!

Katy - you know you want to!! Come over!

Not going

to the Halloween party. Sorry guys. Just can’t afford it. Thought it would be ok next month (James gets paid just before the weekend) but we’ve had a really tight month this month and we need to sort it out and not just hope it will go away. £50 on petrol plus other stuff for a weekend just doesn’t seem sensible. Will miss you all!

the things I do..

in the name of education!! Went to see Spongebob Squarepants at the cinema this morning as part of National Schools Film Week. It was surprisingly funny and Marcus was in his element. Right up his street, which is, in a way, slightly worrying. Alex did better than normal but was still asking to go home halfway through.

Decided against going to the play area at meadowhall in favour of getting to my mum and dads before they went to work. So we saw them briefly and they dropped us off at home.

The kids managed to dissappear into play mode so I left them to it really. We didn’t do anything much to write home about. No normals, nothing.

Still mega grumpy too. :( But tomorrow is another day.
