Life is a Highway - it’s the journey, not the destination

All change?

have been havign a funny year so far I think. Quite a few hings have been going really well for us, but equally we’ve had some rotten stuff happen too which has left me feeling “is this going to be a good year for us or not?”. Today has been no different.

Woke up this morning to an e-mail from my half brother who I saw the other week. He’s the one who lives in Scotland and we went to his wedding last November. Anyway, he has his own business cleaning wheely bins which he seems to do extremely well out of. When he was down I had a nice chat to him about what we wanted in life, that James wanted a change of job/career etc although I never mentioned that one thing we fancied was moving to Scotland and starting afresh. Apparantly a vacancy has come up with my brother’s business and he’s offered it to James. About the same money as we’re on now, but we’d also get a 3 bedroom farmhouse rent free (I will *not* get excited about a farmhouse - it probably won’t be as exciting as it sounds!!). James is really up for it and I am too. It’s a scary prospect, but tbh we really need a kick up the backside if we’re going to do anything and perhaps this is what we’ve been waiting for. Haven’t actually spoken to my brother yet, am waitign for him to phone. But shall no doubt update later as I hear news ;)

Am shattered today, feeling really tired and wanting to sleep. Which doesn’t help when my head is racing with ideas and stuff ;) We were up early as we wanted to go to Chesterfield HE group. Have never been before so kids were slightly clingy till they got to know someone. Well we know Sarah and her kids but they wouldn’t even talk to them!! Anyway, eventually Marcus got in with some other boys and was having a great time. Alex was clingy the whole time, but I guess I ‘m used to her now :( Was speaking to Sarah about the kids playing on the stage and I had said I wasn’t hugely keen on it as I could imagine someone getting pushed off by accident, Sarah then replied that actually she’d never seen anyone hurt, and then almost immediately afterwards Marcus contrived to fall of the stage and smash the side of his face. I really thought for a moment he might have broken his nose or cheekbone but all we have is a huge bruise on his cheek and a black eye. Poor lad.

After that we went to Sarah’s for lunch (yummy homemade bread ;) ) and a play. Marcus was very quiet but has played well and Alex, Dino and Mimi dressed up, played with lego and other stuff. Was very nice.

Home to see James and talk about the future. Want to fall asleep now, but kids are talkign to me about moon phases thanks to a calendar I got from Sarah - cheers hun!

  1. Oh no, poor Marcus :-( We had a stage at our old group which I used to fret about the children playing on for the same reason although it wasn’t actually that high.

The whole possible move / new job / farmhouse sounds very potentially thrilling - can’t wait to hear more :-)

  3. oh gosh, how exciting re the possible move! Would that take you close enough to Joyce to have someone to be social with?

And typical timing for poor Marcus…. all the home ed groups I’ve been to where there is a stage, the stage area is “out of bounds”, probably because we all know how good small boys (and girls!) are at swan dives :(

  4. Oh how amazingly exciting!! Merry said she’d be packing already - I agree with her! Go for it. Farmhouse - reckon there’s a garden with it? Go for it - even if it will take you so ruddy far away too. :/ Whereabouts in Scotland?

  5. Would miss you madly, but sounds a fabulous opportunity, and we could come for holidays ;)

Poor Marcus - I’ve always been neurotic and high-handed about that stage.

  6. Wow, that sounds pretty fab!! Fingers crossed for you on that one. Oh, and poor Marcus…ouch! I hope he isn’t suffering too badly.

  8. It sounds like a wonderful opportunity, especially if there’s a job and farmhouse going. I guess it’s a bit scary moving somewhere new, but home-edding kind of gives you that freedom and not have to panic about schools and such. Plus with your half-brother there, you’ll automatically know someone. Ooh, how exciting!
Hope Marcus is feeling better now, poor thing.

  9. If you are given the chance Kirsty, take it and seize it! You can even rent out your home to pay the mortgage on that so you can always come back if it is awful. Situations like this arise for a reason, as you say you have needed a kick for a while and this will refresh you all and give you the chance to be who you want to be. I am really excited for you.

  10. What they said :) Rent your house out and go - sounds like a wonderful opportunity and it would be awful to turn it down and regret it. Save the money you’d be spending on a mortgage and put it towards your travelling fund …

  11. Yeah - i agree. With everyone. All the time. And definitely on this :) ;)

  12. haven’t been blog scanning as I’m away from home, but sounds good. TBH, no matter what they tell you on the Scottish list, there isn’t that much of an HE scene, but otoh, I think it’s probably only a couple of people away from making it work. And I’d see you at least once a month, as you wouldn’t be too far from Bob’s dad. And we could go to the Alloa group together. Hope it works out.
