Cough… splutter… cough…
Is how I’m sounding. 2nd cough of the winter and I don’t normally do coughs. I can’t remember the last time I was feeling really well actually
Hoping it’s over with quickly and doesn’t infect the children. M has been lucky and hasn’t had any of the colds the rest of us have had.
We had a nice time yesterday with a trip to the Imperial War Museum North. It was the last day of the exhibition we’d been after seeing since about September. It was a Horrible Histories exhibition on the first world war. We’d been to see a HH exhibition at the Armouries and although it was ok, was only a little bit of the museum and we didn’t spend much time in it. I was wondering if this one would be the same. It wasn’t. It was fab. Loads to look at and see and as we’d looked into WW1 lots last year, including the audio cd of the HH book, lots was familiar and I think the kids got a fair bit out of it. Rest of the museum was as fab as it was last time we were there and apart from Alex playing up a little was a lovely day.
We were supposed to start our new routine today, or at least get out of holiday mode. I was up quite late though and we didn’t start too well especially with me being ill. Although M had started the day by doing some reading. We got dressed, had brekkie and headed to the library. I managed to get Alex interested in a couple of Audio books, Owl Babies and a Harry and his dinosaur type book. It’s funny, she still clings to these younger kids type of books and she always wants to get out those touchy feely books. I’m sure they have helped her with her reading so far, so hopefully keeping with ‘younger’ audio books means she can follow along if she wants to. We got out Spy Dog which we’d read as a read aloud and enjoyed, and Marcus got a Horrendous Hiccup story and some other one I can’t recall at the moment. I picked up George’s Secret Key to the Universe
which I’d heard good reviews about and thought M would enjoy. Actually Alex has been asking lots of stuff about space recently so maybe she’ll get lots out of it too. I had a nice little browse around Wikipedia and read about Stephen Hawking, as I really don’t know much about him at all.
We did a little of our read alouds while having lunch and after that I retired somewhere to cough while the kids played various video games that are nice and new and still have some novelty value.
This evening Alex and I have played Blokus, trying to keep her mind of a persistent tummy ache she has been having in the evenings. If she’s not thinking about it she’s much better but once she’s bored I think she’s using it as something to relieve the boredom iykwim. We’re trying to keep her food intake nice and healthy and up her fluid as she hardly drinks anything. Hope it passes as she’s no fun whinging!
I must also write about the Build an Internal Combustion Engine kit Marcus got for Christmas which he just loved. He seems to have a much better understanding of how it ll works now and considering cars are (and probably always will be) his passion it’s been nice to have something that has included that love. We found a good site with a game or 2 on it and a nice animation aimed at kids on how the engine works.
I’ve probably missed something major in the blog but my head isn’t really in a fit state to write so I’ll leave this here.
