Slowly
Life has been fairly slow round here. I think I’ve had flu, I don’t think I’ve ever had flu before but I’m sure this was it. Coughing, sneezing, runny nose, temperature, aches, sickness. Ugh. Seem to be over the worst of it now but feeling very weak and wobbly still as an earlier trip to the supermarket made me realise. I thought the kids might be coming down with it as they’ve been coughing but no further progression there, James on the other hand has been not great all day and has been in bed since about 7pm with a very hot temp
He managed work today but not sure if he’ll manage tomorrow. He never did go for his flu jab this year either. Hope he’s ok with it and doesn’t suffer much.
So the kids have been mainly bumbling around while I’ve been sleeping. They’ve done some Explode the Code and M has read another couple of chapters of his book. Only one to go then he’s done. I need to think about whether to keep trying to encourage him to read these kinds of books to help his fluency or give him a break and let him come to it on his own terms. Argh. He doesn’t *hate* reading or anything and doesn’t really grumble when he does it, but if I don’t remind him he would never pick it up. It just feels a little forced which I don’t like. Hmmm.
We started reading george’s secret key to the universe and the kids are loving it so far. Lots of talk of science and space and such like going on. Not my strong point unfortunately so I’ll be learning alongside them.
M has been watching CBBC in the mornings and has got into Bamzooki’s again and has been having much fun designing and building his own zooks. He really enjoys doing stuff like that and the fantastic contraptions site. We were a little behind the blog craze (BK craze??) of doing it but I’ve never seen him take so well to a site!
They’ve both been playing round with their chemistry set, never ending fun that! I really should actually start trying to teach them something about the many concoctions they make. They have managed to conclude that the vinegar and bicarb are the things that react though! James thought they were wasting all the stuff by just blindly mixing it all but I figure they need to get it out of their system a bit so it’s not always the thing they feel they want to do.
